چکیده

The bladder is lined by urothelium a mitoticallyquiescent epithelium in situ characterised by an extremely low turnover rate and long-lived cells. However, in response to injury, infection or other stimuli, the urothelium develops a highly regenerative response. As a self-renewing tissue, there is assumed to be a resident progenitor population. However, no specific population has yet been identified that acts as a stem cell in human urothelium.

Role of FGFR3 in Urothelial Carcinoma

Background and Objective: This study was undertaken to analyze the immunohistochemical expression of fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR3) in urothelial carcinoma and correlate its expression with the pathological stage, recurrence and other clinicopathological parameters. Material and Methods: A retrospective study was undertaken on paraffin blocks o...

Molecular profiles of the mouse postnatal development of the esophageal epithelium showing delayed growth start.

Studies on molecular mechanisms of self-renewal in normal stem cells are required for understanding the cancer stem cell. Self-renewal in many kinds of normal stem cells might be accelerated in the growth of a young organism and in the repair of damaged tissue. This study examined whether the esophagus in growing neonates provides an experimental system for studies on epithelial stem cell renew...

Immunohistochemical Comparison of p53 Expression, Intensity and Distribution in Different Papillary Urothelial Cancers

Background: Given the importance of differential diagnosis of different papillary urothelial cancers, expression, intensity and distribution of p53 were evaluated in different bladder cancers using immunohistochemistry. Materials and Methods: In a retrospective study, archived samples of patients with different papillary urothelial cancers in Shohaday-e-Khalij Fars Hospital were selected. The s...

Dysregulation of olfactory receptor neuron lineage in schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND Growing evidence implicates abnormal neurodevelopment in schizophrenia. While neuron birth and differentiation is largely completed by the end of gestation, the olfactory epithelium (OE) is a unique part of the central nervous system that undergoes regeneration throughout life, thus offering an opportunity to investigate cellular and molecular events of neurogenesis and development p...

Involvement of a metalloprotease in low-affinity nerve growth factor receptor truncation: inhibition of truncation in vitro and in vivo.

The mechanism of low-affinity NGF receptor (LNGFR) truncation was investigated in cultured Schwann cells. Affinity labeling of Schwann cells with 125I-NGF or metabolic labeling with 35S-cysteine showed that truncated NGF receptor (NGF-Rt) was derived from the cell surface form of the receptor. Addition of full-length, exogenous NGF receptor (M(r) = 80 kDa) to Schwann cell membranes resulted in ...
